SongWave Community Choir

SongWave is a choir of about 60 members, based in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway. Directed by Kate Howard, they sing a varied range of songs and styles (usually in 4 part harmony) from British, European and American contemporary community songwriters, all of which have been carefully chosen to sound right when sung by an unaccompanied choir.  They perform several times a year within the local area.

They don’t hold auditions and you don’t have to read music to join them!

They rehearse on Tuesday evenings over about 15 weeks for each of two concert seasons:  a Spring/Summer performance series usually around the Summer Solstice in June; an Autumn/Winter set of performances usually around the first week of December.

Before every concert season, they hold a day-long workshop (typically early September and late January/early February) to introduce the music they’ll be learning for the season ahead.  These workshops are an ideal opportunity for new members, if space is available, to see how they learn and sing together.

They describe themselves as a community of people who love to sing. They sing a mix of pop, folk, world music and more, in a fun and friendly environment. Truly a choir for all!
