Our Music Director is Kate Howard. Kate leads not only Cairn Chorus but also our sister choirs: Songwave Choir in Castle Douglas, the Catstrand Singers in New Galloway, the Dark Sky Singers in Moffat and the Balkan Lassies in Laurieston.
Classically trained, Kate's singing has taken her from sites of protest in the 1980s, to starting community, women's and socialist choirs in the north of England, touring the world with Northern Harmony from Vermont in the USA, working in a Steiner school in the south of England and then settling with her family in Moniaive. Kate's energy is infectious and her experience, passion and skill inspires each choir she works with.
Kate's work dedicated to nurturing traditional Scottish music at community level, particularly her work with Feis Rois has recently been recognised by her induction into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.
